Ancestors from old Sweden
One of my grandfathers familytrees seems to lead to medieval Sweden. A certain corporal Diedrik Garf came as a volunteer with Swedish troops (Upplands Ståndsdragoner VIIth company Nr 110) to assist war efforts in the areas, which at that time were near the eastern border of the Swedish empire. He stayed in Asikkala Finland, got married and had a son Didrik in 1728. His grandson Anders later married to Somerniemi, and his son found his wife in Nauvo.
Diedrik was born in Skåne in 1698, according to the army rolls. At that time Henrik Garff and his wife Cathrina Diedriksd Melon lived and had a family in Skåne. Henrik may have been a relative to those members of Garff/ Garfvé-family, who were married to Mannersköld's. Mannerskölds later owned property in Somero in Finland, and our Garf-person moved to live in Somero, at about the same time. But it may have been pure coincidence, of course.

Ancestors in Tammela, Tyrvää and about Häme
Fathers mother comes from Häme. Her roots lead to several old farms and country houses and can be followed until the middle ages. A central person in her story is a parish minister, Isak Mattss Tammelinus b. ab. 1630 in Lohja. He had two wives, one son and several daughters, who married to local wealthy farms. Isak's father was a parish minister in Lohja, Mathias Laurentii Forsman, but not much is known about him. Isak's mother seems to be a decendant of some wellknown medieval families in Finland, Brita Larsd Olkkala. Her father was a landowner in Vihti, and fathers mother from Gästerby in Sipoo. Brita's mother comes from Ekelöf and Teit families, whose roots have been widely searched until the 1500th century.
Other old, local families include Rekola, Nikkilä, Heikkari and Hasia in Akaa, Kettula in Sääksmäki, Rasila in Viiala, Paavola in Humppila, Lassila, Seppälä and Pehu in Loimaa, Juonikas and Isopere in Metsämaa, Suutela and Augusti in Somero, Lekka, Lukkala and Humalainen in Tammela.

My grandfathers mother origins from the Turku archipelago, or at least her mother does. Family has lived there for centuries. The oldest known person in that line seems to be Samuel Johanss Klockare, a parish clerk between 1679-1729 (Nagu Sockens.. 1992, 261).

My father was born in Turku, but his parents came from the surrounding area and from Häme.
Fathers father was born in Parainen. His father came from Pöytyä. He was a descendant of a soldier, Anders Jakobss Spansk. He was born 20.4.1776 (according to Maaria communion book TMA JK 900 1795 1801 144) in Pöytyä (according to army rolls TMA 54943). Family Search names Brita Thomasd as his mother, but there is nothing to support this, although Brita lives with the family in Yläne. Brita is a soldier's widow, who has returned to her birth place, but there is no information on second marriage or children born after the death of her husband.
Anders may be a son of a soldier Jakob Blomqvist and his wife Maria Jakobsd. Where they came from to live at Maaria Lonttinen is not known to me. Yet.
Anders marries Maria Michelsd in Maaria and family moves to live in Yläne, Tourula village. Maria is born 11.7.1773 and comes from Mulli (Maaria 1795-1800 VA 48 100). Mulli may be the one in Maaria Kaerla, or somewhere else.

Old Carelia area, Koivisto and Seiskari islands
My mothers family came to Turku region after the Second World War. They had survived the war without any casualties, although some of the family members had taken part with the war efforts. Family branches to Seiskari island as well as Koivusaari island in Koivisto. Oldest known ancestors come from Haukka, Klaus, Kääriä, Kötti and Lavonen families in Lavansaari, Heikkola, Herrala, Hotanen, Kiili and Ämmälä in Seiskari and Heino, Hytti, Hyypiö, Kokkala and Virkki in Koivisto.

I have started writing this blog in order to create a research diary,which can be read also by my fellow researchers, family members and other relatives.
I've chosen to write in English. Reason for this lies in the nature of the Internet. There are at least second cousins, but also more distant relatives, scattered around the world, who may google their ancestors.
First thing to do is to give a general description on the present stage of my research. Because my family (ended up in Turku on the southern coast during the last century) comes from different regions nearby the borders of Finland, I'll write a short story on each of the main branches.
